About Townsville Central City Mission (Uniting Church)

With approximately 250 congregations and multiple educational institutions and community services, including UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Brisbane, the Uniting Church in Australia is the third-largest Christian denomination in the country. The Uniting Church in Queensland is dedicated to a revitalization process called Together on the Way, enriching the community as a response to God’s call. They are committed to uniting in Christ, acting with love, living with hope, witnessing in faith, and working for justice. During each stage of this journey, Synod-wide Priority Directions will be determined.

Established in 1985 by the resolution of the Uniting Church Assembly, the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC or Congress) is an integral part of the Uniting Church in Australia. The Congress has the autonomy to determine its own goals, objectives, policies, and priorities. The Uniting Church places great importance on its covenanting relationship with its Indigenous members.

What to do at Townsville Central City Mission (Uniting Church)

Taking Uniting Church members on a journey of reflection, discovery, questioning, and dialogue, the 12th Assembly of the Uniting Church in Australia (2009) made a significant change to the Constitution by recognizing Aboriginal and Islander people as the First Peoples of Australia. This amendment reflects the immense power of the covenant. Creating and sustaining a culture of peace and harmony, the Uniting Church recognizes the importance of building relationships with individuals of diverse faiths and cultures. In support of this objective, the church has established the Interfaith Relationships Committee, while the Relations with Other Faiths Working Group operates within the National Assembly.

The Uniting Church in Australia is experiencing an increase in its membership from diverse cultural backgrounds and non-English speaking communities. In Queensland, the Synod Multi-Cross Cultural Committee serves as the representative entity. At the Assembly level, there is a dedicated emphasis on Multicultural and Cross-Cultural Ministry, with various online resources accessible to support these efforts.
